![]() Several diseases are also caused due to them which becomes a financial burden. They also affect the livestock of farmers that we raise as a source of food products. Insects are notoriously known to destroy the crops that we create and affect the agricultural and economic system of our society. Or sometimes they can directly affect the health of our body or the environment surrounding us. This is the diversity of nature but as humans what we are worried about is their conflict with us for the access to natural resources for our survival. They are also sometimes parasites that stay associated with their hosts for their survival. It can be either a herbivore consuming on materials available from plant source or can be a predator hunting down other smaller insects. Like any other living being they also need food for their survival and are always searching for it. Though all of them play a role in the balance of nature as we experience it, from the context of humans they can be either beneficial, harmful, or neutral. They are a very essential creation of nature that can be found in all the habitable regions of earth. Several common inert ingredients also increase the likelihood that an herbicide’s active ingredient will penetrate human skin and find its way into our cells. The population of insects is estimated to be a lot more than all the big creatures that we can see easily. It can work the same way when people are exposed. And now the herbicide can no longer be washed off or broken down by sunlight. ![]() The quicker that happens, the more effective it will be. Many common ‘inerts’ are designed to rapidly move the herbicide from the outside of the weed (i.e., a leaf surface) to inside the weed. Some inert ingredients are more toxic to certain organisms, including mammals, than the herbicide active ingredient they are mixed into.Increased herbicide ‘stickiness’ prolongs and increases human exposures when children, or adults, play on fields sprayed in the recent past. Some inert ingredients alter the “stickiness” of the herbicide on plant tissues, reducing the chances an untimely rain will wash an herbicide off the weed before it has been absorbed. The ‘inert ingredients’ can alter how an herbicide acts on plants which has implications for peoples’ health in 3 ways: How do inert ingredients alter the toxicity for plants-and more importantly for people? Toxic persistent pesticides are not used in any of the StonyFIELDS Initiative Fields. Organic farmers are also allowed to use naturally occurring (non-synthetic) pesticides, but again only if these materials are confirmed to be low-risk for human health or the environment. Conventional farmers have access to roughly 900 different synthetic pesticides, whereas organic farmers are permitted to use 25. They are limited to a small number of pesticides that have been reviewed by the National Organic Standards Board and been found to have little to no risk to human health or the environment. Organic farmers can only use approved pesticides as part of an organic ecological systems approach. Organic farmers rely on techniques that promote ecological balance on the farm, such as cover cropping, crop rotations, planting buffers and hedgerows, and building soil health, to keep pests and diseases in check. Organic practices strictly forbid the use of toxic persistent pesticides. Some can continue to cause damage for decades after they are first used. ![]() They break down very slowly, remaining in our soil, water and air. Non-organic farms spray toxic persistent pesticides and herbicides to keep pests at bay, and many of these chemicals are proving to be harmful to pollinators and other wildlife, as well as to human health.
